William C. Hayes, 96 HOUSTON - William C. Hayes, of Houston, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010, at Westminster Village in Dover. He was 96. Mr. Hayes was born in Houston the son of the late Fred and Lucy Hayes. He was a foreman for Libby-McNeil & Libby in Houston and worked for the Mosquito Control Division for the State of Delaware. During World War II he spotted planes. He was a member of the Houston U.M. Church, the United Methodist Men, lifetime member of Houston Vol. Fire Co and former member of Vintage Chevy Car Club of Delaware. He enjoyed gardening, baseball, bowling, horseshoes, woodworking and doing crossword puzzles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Hayes; brothers, Fred and Russell Hayes; and granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Pauline Hayes; two daughters, Patricia Johnson and her husband Stanley of Felton, Shirley Taulbee and her husband Bob of Lincoln; a sister, Madeline Quillen of Houston; four grandchildren, Mike Johnson and his wife Debbie, David Taulbee and his friend, Lisa Horn, Tracy Grose and her husband Lawrence and Jason Johnson and his wife Amy; three great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in October, Michelle Johnson, Amanda Grose and Lawrence Grose Jr.; four nieces and one nephew. Funeral Services were 1 p.m., Sunday, March 28, at Houston U. M. Church, 235 Broad St., Houston. Interment will be at Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
