DOVER - Walter L. "Brownie" Brown Jr. of Dover passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 81.
Mr. Brown was born on Jan. 6, 1926, in Smyrna, son of the late Walter Sr and Elsie Emert Brown.
He was raised and schooled in Smyrna.
Mr. Brown attended Calvary Assembly of God Church in Dover.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was in the service in Germany and the Philippines and was in the 342nd Infantry. His decoration and citations include Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and World War II medal.
He had several jobs after the war, and had his own crabbing and trapping boat. When he was unable to continue this, he started setting up tables at Spence"s Bazaar. He was loved and known there for more than 20 years.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Brown was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8801, Smyrna, and American Legion Fox Post, Dover.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Frankie Stubbs; and a brother Bob.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris L. Brown; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Walter Luther Brown of Smyrna, Kenneth and Trish Brown of Dover, Michael R. Brown of Milford, William P. III and Debbie Brown of Milford; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Tom Gares of Smyrna, Sherrie and Frank Stubbs of Millsboro, Christine Faith and Fred Brown of Harrington; two sisters Margaret Emerson and Betty Pearce, both of Smyrna; grandchildren, Stacy, Wendy, Kimberly, Gregg, Jenny, Ashley, Linda, J.R. Crystal, Jamie, Christopher, Angela and her husband, Ronny, Christopher and William; great-grandchildren, Barry, Darren, Cody, Ethan, Shawn, Kiara, Johnathan, Frankie, Briona, Jenifer, Vincent, Catelynn, Emallie, Lane, Lindsey and Gracee.
Celebration of life services will be noon Wednesday in Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
