HARRINGTON - Wallace E. Ryan, 76, of Harrington, died Sunday, October 19, 2008. The son of Elver and Emma (Workman) Ryan, Wallace was born in Andrewville. After graduation from Greenwood High School in 1950, Wallace served in the Army, training at Fort Bliss, Texas as a radar specialist. Married in England, he and his bride returned to Andrewville where he owned and operated "Wally's Garage", became a farmer and enjoyed his greatest passion driving the race cars he and his buddies built. He was a charter member of the Andrewville Ruritan Club and a lifetime V.F.W. member. He loved watching NASCAR and bowled for many years on the Harrington Business League. Wallace is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deanne (Shultie) Ryan; one daughter, Kelley Ryan Harrell and her husband Duane; two sons Kris Wallace Ryan and his wife Robin, all of Harrington, and Kirk Elver Ryan, of New Milford, Conn. Wally cherished his five grandchildren, Kristen Ryan, Soni Ryan, Hannah Harrell, Rachel Harrell, and Jack Ryan. He loved his only sister, Evelyn Scarborough, and his special cousin, David Ryan. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Highway, Harrington. The family suggests contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 323, Harrington, DE 19952.
