CHESTERTOWN, Md. - W. Franklin Moffett of Chestertown died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, in Chester River Manor, Chestertown. He was 100.
Mr. Moffett was born Oct. 31, 1906, in Kennedyville, son of the late Walter and Mary (Cooper) Moffett.
He spent most of his life as a dairyman and farmer. From 1953 to 1956 he had the highest producing herd in Maryland.
He was an avid bowler after retirement.
Mr. Moffett was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestertown and a vestryman of St. Paul's Church. He was the director of Kent Co-op, director of Kent Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the Chestertown Ruritans, and a 1922 charter member of Kent 4-H Clover Calf Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth M. Crew and Ursula M. Wiest; and three brothers, Harrison C. Moffett, Howard H. Moffett and Walter Moffett Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Greenwood) Moffett of Chestertown; a daughter and a son-in-law, Nancy and Curtis Pope of Chestertown; two grandchildren, Constance Rosa and her husband, Matthew of Newark, Del., and Heidi Barry and her husband, Ryan of South Riding, Va.; and a brother, George Robert Moffett of Chestertown.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Paul's Parish Kent, 7579 Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
