Virginia M. Gendal

Virginia M. Gendal, 94

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Virginia M. Gendal, of Chestertown, died March 3, 2008, in Chester River Hospital Center. She was 94.

Born on March 23, 1913, in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Renetta Riley.

Virginia was a graduate of Altoona High School and went on to be a beautician owning a beauty salon.

She also sold women's clothing for specialty shops.

Virginia was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church of Altoona.

She enjoyed playing piano and organ and performed in musicals conducted by her father.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Gendel; brothers, Jack and Jim Riley; and sister, Louise Hammond.

She is survived by two sons, Joel Taylor of Chestertown, and William Lockerby of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Anne Taylor, Meghan Taylor, Jack Lockerby and Lisa Lockerby; and two great-grandchildren, Patrick and Katherine Taylor-Gough.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, Md.

Friends and family may call from 2-4 p.m. today in Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidson.
