BLACKBIRD - Virginia Haglan, 89, formerly of Blackbird, Del. passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at Kent General Hospital/Bayhealth in Dover. Born on November 3, 1923 in Shamokin, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Claude and Frances (Doyle) Martin. Throughout her life, Virginia worked for various businesses as a bookkeeper. She was an avid Phillies fan and shared a love and compassion for all animals. Virginia and her late husband, Chuck, owned standard bred race horses for more than 20 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Charles Haglan in August, 2009. Virginia leaves a legacy of wonderful memories to her son, Charles W. Haglan of Colorado; daughter-in-law, Karen U. Lepkowski of Clayton; sister, Mary Kirk of New Jersey; granddaughter, Amy LaBerge and a great-granddaughter, Sarah LaBerge both of Smyrna. Committal services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the chapel at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Del. In memory of Virginia's love for animals, her family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Animal Humane Sanctuary, 409 Black Diamond Road, Smyrna, DE 19977.
