Virgil G. Townsend Sr.

DAGSBORO - Virgil G. Townsend, Sr, age 74, of Dagsboro went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010. He served in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Perdue in Showell, Md., as a diesel mechanic for 22 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. He was a New York Yankees fan and was a very avid NASCAR fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Hester (McGee) Townsend. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy M. Townsend; a son and his wife, Virgil G. and Karen Townsend of Laurel; two beautiful granddaughters, Donna-Kay and Kamryn, both of Laurel, and several close in-laws, nieces and nephews. And his faithful furry companion, Josie. A memorial service will be noon, Friday, Oct. 29, at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memoria contributions to Bethel Methodist Church of Dagsboro, P.O. Box 147, Dagsboro, DE 19939; or Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Co. P.O.
