PHOENIX, Ariz. - Virgil F. Rittenhouse passed away at his home in Phoenix on May 9, 2018. He was born in Houston, Del.
He served in the Army from 1966 to 1968 and was a Viet Nam Veteran, earning many medals. Virgil worked at Chrysler in Newark and retired after 30 years. Virgil moved to Phoenix to be near his daughter Dawn R. Rittenhouse and get away from the cold and snow in Delaware. He would call family members and ask about the weather and laugh since he spent nine months out of a year in his pool.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Lloyd Rittenhouse; and his daughter, Dawn R. Rittenhouse.
He is survived by his brother, Lloyd (Rezina) Rittenhouse of Virginia; a half-sister, Irene Pernol of Dover; and two nieces, Violet (Ron) Bauer of Smyrna and Sharon (Bill) Taylor of Felton. He will be missed by many friends and his neighbors, Lorena and Brandon Johnson family. They shared many happy times together. They lovingly looked after Virgil as if he was a family member.
His body was entrusted to the Samaritan Funeral Home in Phoenix, Ariz. Interment will be in the National Veterans Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz., in June.
