Virgil Duckett, 78

DOVER - Virgil Duckett of Dover, formerly of Ellington, Conn., died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was 78.

Mr. Duckett was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Freemont, Mo.

He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a flight engineer, retiring in 1967.

After retiring, he worked at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., as a machinist in the aircraft industry, retiring in 1992.

Mr. Duckett enjoyed working in his yard and garden, and was "Homer Simpson"s number one fan." His expertise was in history and trivia. He enjoyed being with family and friends, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Minnie L. (Tillman) Duckett, in December 2004; four sisters; a brother; a son, James Duckett; and a daughter, Alicia Duckett.

He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Duckett and her life partner, Vickie Hoover, both of Dover; a brother and a sister-in-law, Jerry and Elaine Duckett of Reno, Nev.; three grandchildren, Kathryn Smith and her husband, Chris, of Brookland, Texas, Marcia Willey of Felton and R. Scott Willey and his wife, Holly, of Camden-Wyoming; and seven great-grandchildren, Emilianne Doolittle, Kraig Doolittle, Emmie McDonald, Carrie McDonald, David McDonald, Kassidy Willey and Jorja Willey.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or a charity of choice.

Letters of condolences may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
