Veronica T. Kriss passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022.
Veronica was born in South Philadelphia in October of 1935 to the late Matthew & Nellie Taraila.
She was a world traveler, skilled card player and a trailblazer in the world of women in construction. She was a child of 2 worlds, the Trolley car, movie house & corner store world where she worked alongside her grandmother in South Philadelphia and the world of outhouses, milking the cows before school, and then walking 10 miles uphill, both ways to the bus stop in rural Hartly.
She graduated from Dover High School in 1953. Feeling she wanted a future for herself, she worked at Diamond State Telephone as a Switchboard Operator while attending Goldey-Beacom College. She had planned a career with the phone company until Bill asked her to return to Hartly to be his wife and start a family.
She worked for Edgell Construction Co. for many years and in 1979, she started Kriss Contracting, Inc., an underground utility company. She continued to work up to her passing.
Veronica was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William J. Kriss; and her brother, Raymond Taraila, Sr. (Pat).
She is survived by her sister, Sandy Virdin (Bob); and an aunt, Frances Boynton. She is also survived by her son, William M. Kriss (Lynn); daughters, Denise Kriss and Kathleen Kriss (John Melvin); her grandchildren, Jennifer Harman (Trent Collins), Janica Cimo (Charles), Nick Kriss, Robert Weissenfluh (Amber), Eric Weissenfluh (Rachel), Alex Weissenfluh (Valentina Correa), Susan Rider (Ron) and Preston Spicher (Tricia); her great-grandchildren, Corbin & Carter Cimo, Catherine Harman, Connor & Parker Weissenfluh, Emma Weissenfluh and Sienna Weissenfluh.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wenesday, February 16, 2022 in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, Del.
