MILLSBORO - Vernon B. Cordrey of Millsboro died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at home. He was 79.
Mr. Cordrey was born July 21, 1928, in Gumboro, to the late Alton B. and Essie (Esham) Cordrey.
Mr. Cordrey was a member of Hickory Hill United Methodist Church, Millsboro, Millsboro Lions Club, where he served as past president, board of directors of Millsboro Little League, and recently a member of the grounds crew.
He loved to watch his grandchildren play baseball and other sports and he was part of the Millsboro McDonald"s morning crew.
Mr. Cordrey retired from the state of Delaware Department of Transportation, Georgetown, in 1990 after 36 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Pauline (Shockley) Cordrey, on April 17, 1993.
Mr. Cordrey is survived by three sons, Gary A. Cordrey and his wife Bertha Mae of Dagsboro, Dennis V. and his wife Debbie, and Mark H. and his wife Virginia, all of Millsboro; one brother, Richard E. Cordrey of Newark; one sister, Irene E. Lowe of Millsboro; six grandchildren, Keith and his wife Rebecca, Kevin and his wife Jennifer, Brian and his wife Crystal, Brooke, Bradley and his wife Mallori, and Brett.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call after 11 a.m.
The Rev. Betty Jo Magee will officiate.
Interment will be in Millsboro Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hickory Hill U.M. Church, C/O Roy Rogers, Treasurer, 28209 Walt Carmen Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966; or to the Millsboro Little League, P.O. Box 674, Millsboro, DE 19966.
