Thomas W. "Tommy" Sartin, 80
MIDDLETOWN - Thomas W. "Tommy" Sartin of Middletown passed away peacefully Thursday, May 31, 2007, in his home, with his loving family by his side. He was 80.
Mr. Sartin was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Boyd"s Corner, Middletown, son of the late Leslie D. and Grace (Heverin) Sartin.
He devoted his lifetime to farming.
He enjoyed meeting people and always had the time to stop to share a few kind words. Because of his outgoing personality, many will remember him for his great sense of humor, big heart and the friendship he unselfishly shared with others. He adored his family and cherished the many dear friends he made over the years.
Mr. Sartin was a member of the St. Georges United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed being a greeter, and especially looked forward to all of the hugs and kisses he received every Sunday. He devoted many tireless hours and years to the care and upkeep of Hickory Grove Cemetery, where he and his wife served as board members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rena Phillips; and two brothers, Leslie L. and Vaughn W. Sartin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Thelma (Deakyne) Sartin; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Ray Graham of Newark, and Barbara Kelly of Bear; two sisters, Pauline Johnson of Magnolia and Iris Baldwin of Smyrna; two brothers, Hazel Sartin of Townsend and Larry J. Sartin of Smyrna; seven grandchildren, Ronnie Kelly, Glenn Williams, Melanie Thorp, Rebecca Johnson, Cindy Kelly, Nathan Graham and Erin Graham; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn Road, Middletown.
Memorial services honoring his life will be 3 p.m. June 16 in St. Georges United Methodist Church, 109 N. Broad St., St. Georges.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Georges United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 145, St. Georges, DE 19733.
