Thomas C. Childress

Thomas C. Childress, 74

Thomas C. Childress of Smyrna died Saturday, March 10, 2007, in his home. He was 74.

Mr. Childress was born Dec. 25, 1932, in Hartly, son of the late Thomas C. and Laura Benge Childress.

He worked for 25 years for the Capital School District as a custodian. Prior to the school district he worked at Kent General Hospital and Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill.

He enjoyed watching wrestling on TV, traveling, sightseeing and gardening.

Mr. Childress was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church, Dover.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Childress Jr.; and a sister, Hazel Warren.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Beatrice Mosley Childress; two sons, Ronnie Childress and Dennis Childress, both of Florida; a brother, John Childress of Harrington; a sister, Ennis Shaffer of Greensboro, Md.; three grandchildren, Christopher, Laura and Josh; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Immanuel Union Cemetery, Cheswold.
