"Jeff" Buckner, 67
DOVER - Technical Sergeant, Retired Jeffrey "Jeff" Buckner passed away, Sunday, January 3, 2021 at home.
Mr. Buckner was born December 2, 1953 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Joseph Cody and Ida Buckner Stewart. He graduated from New London High School, New London, Conn., in 1973.
He retired from the United States Air Force in 1994 after 20 years. He served during the Vietnam War, Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
After his retirement from the military, he drove school buses for Dawson Bus Service and retired in 2017 after 22 years. He loved playing and coaching football from little league all the way up to semi-pro, and especially shared his passion for football with his sons and grandson Richard, Arthur and Sadeek. He also spent many years refereeing basketball, and was a huge fan of the UConn Women's Basketball team. Mr. Buckner absolutely loved fishing with his grandson Xavier. He was a Girl Scout leader for ten years with his daughters, Jaquelin and Kelly. Mr. Buckner was a member of Calvary Church in Dover, where he was famously known for being a Roman Soldier in the yearly Easter Productions.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Buckner.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Jean Mackey Buckner of Dover; children, Jacquelin Shoates and her husband Arthur, Richard Buckner, Kelly Buckner, Nichole Buckner and Mary Leon; brothers, LaMar Peter Moore and Leland "Bubba" Stewart, Jr.; sisters, Kathy Moore, Letitia Burgis and Lisa Fowler; grandchildren, Sadeek, Taysha, Xavier, Shaday, Marissa, Alicia, Eli, Jayda, Julia, Jenna, Jazlyn, Jillian, Jordyn and Jeremiah; great grandchildren, Mayleen and Navina (Bean); and best friends, Calvin Ladson, Nolan Scott and Rick Butler.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Calvary Church in Dover, 1141 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Services will also be provided online at
