NEWARK - Shirley A. Hairgrove of Newark died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, following an early morning fire in her home. She was 69.
Mrs. Hairgrove was born Oct. 29, 1936, in Viola, daughter of the late Arthur M. and Agnes W. Sipple.
She was a 1954 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School.
She worked part-time as a clerk at Carroll's Sales Co., Felton. She also worked at Kent General Hospital and Union Hospital of Elkton.
Once her children arrived, she did what she enjoyed most, which was being a stay-at-home mother to her children and, later, a doting grandmother to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Hairgrove very much enjoyed traveling with her husband and had the opportunity to visit many states as well as various other parts of the world including England and Hong Kong. Their children and grandchildren accompanied them on many of their travels and she loved the time spent with her grandchildren. For many years, she and her husband maintained a retirement home in Long Neck and spent many leisurely hours there along the water.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by a son, Richard C. Hairgrove Jr., in 1964.
She is survived by her husband, Richard C. Hairgrove Sr. of Newark, whom she married Dec. 8, 1956; a son and a daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Susan Hairgrove of Middletown; a daughter and a son-in-law, Barbara S. and Jay Harrington of Newark; four brothers and four sisters-in-law, twins, Ronald E. and Margaret Sipple of Bridgeville and Donald A. and Izetta Sipple of Georgetown and William A. and Joyce Sipple of Viola and Larry R. and Connie Sipple of Milford; a grandson, Thomas Hairgrove of Middletown; a granddaughter, Alexa Harrington of Newark; an aunt, Dorothy Minner of Camden; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, where the friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Co. (Newark Fire Department), P.O. Box 148, Newark, DE 19715.
