Sherman Everett 'Turk' Towers, 60 GREENSBORO, Md. - Sherman Everett "Turk" Towers, of Greensboro, drifted away Monday, March 16, 2009, in his home with Sylvia, after a long war with a monster, lung cancer. He was 60. Turk was born May 22, 1948, in Easton to Gretta Irelene Allen Towers and Granville Everett Towers. He graduated from North Caroline High School in 1966 and enlisted and became a Sergeant in the United States Air Force in 1967. He served until December of 1973 as a jet mechanic in Japan, Vietnam, and North Dakota. He worked mainly in construction and landscaping over the years and was also at the St. Benedictine School teaching silk screening. He was a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29 in Denton. Turk thrived when he was outside. He loved working in the yard at home with Sylvia growing and eating tomatoes and hot peppers from the garden. His true passion was drifting on the "Turkahoe" River watching the eagles. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, crabbing, bird watching, and grilling. Turk is survived by his loving partner and best friend, Sylvia Wilhide of Greensboro; his mother, Gretta "Skip" Towers of Preston; a son, Anthony Wade Towers of Denton; a daughter, Victoria Quinones of North Carolina; two sisters, Linda Sharp of Denton and Lisa McNeil of Preston; five grandchildren, Kori, Austin, Charisma, AJ, and Katie; three nephews, Rick Sharp, Ken Sharp, and Michael McNeil; and a niece, Stella Lisa McNeil; and many cousins. A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Caroline American Legion Post 29 on Legion Road in Denton. Friends should bring memories to share. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629 or to the Caroline American Legion Post 29, P.O. Box 518, Denton, MD 21629. Arrangements are by Moore Funeral Home, P.A. in Denton.
