GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Sara W. Sheppard of Gettysburg, formerly of Dover, Del., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, in Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. She was 84.
Mrs. Sheppard was born Oct. 29, 1922 in Salisbury, Md., daughter of the late Harry and Anna Elizabeth (Webb) Warren.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a seaman first class from 1944 to 1946.
She worked for Russ Berrie Toy Co., in Oakland, N.J., where she served as a customer service manager until her retirement in 1986. She also operated her own beauty salon for more than 20 years.
She was an avid painter and loved arts and crafts. She made robes that she donated to area nursing homes.
Mrs. Sheppard was a member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church. She was president of the Business Women's Associations in Dover and Ringwood, N.J. She was president of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church Christmas Bazaar.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Warren; and two sisters, Florence Bender and Ruth Custer.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Callie C. Sheppard; a son and a daughter-in-law, Warren H. and Dolly Sheppard of Gettysburg; two grandchildren, Sandra B. Sheppard and Callie W. Sheppard.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Daniel T. Hans will officiate.
Services will also be noon Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Home, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Lake Side Cemetery, Dover.
