CAMDEN - Samuel T. Hughes Jr., of Camden, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 78.

He was born on Dec. 25, 1929, in Felton, son of the late Samuel and Martha (Jones) Hughes.

Samuel was a graduate of Felton High School and worked for Dover Hardware.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon.

In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Tabitha Hughes on July 16, 1999; and a sister, Norma Downham.

He is survived by a son, Sam Hughes III and his wife Patricia of Valrico, Fla.; a daughter, Shirley Rhodes of Dover; a sister, Ellen Hughes of Frederica; three grandchildren, Tiffany Zura and her husband Michael of Charleston, S.C., Ronald "RW" Rhodes Jr. of Dover and his fiancé Devon Roe, and Courtney Hughes of Florida; and a great-granddaughter, Hanna Zura.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday in Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
