ELLENDALE, DE - Samuel Paynter Johnson, Sr. passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at home. Paynter was born in Milford, the son of the late Paris Preston Johnson and Mary Louise (Donovan) Johnson.
He worked for the State of Delaware as a heavy equipment operator for over 25 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Slaughter Neck U.M. Church. Paynter enjoyed keeping a beautiful yard with flowers and grass as well as farming and the wildlife that would visit. He also enjoyed doing yard work for folks in the area. He loved spending time with his step-grandson, especially spending every weekend with him.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Jane Johnson; a brother, Marvin Johnson; and a sister, Della Gober.
He is survived by a son, Samuel Paynter Johnson, Jr. (Shari); a daughter, Dawn Louise Johnson; a step grandson, Jacob Daniel Auman; a brother, Alvin Johnson; and a sister, Phyllis Pritchett; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 12 - 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where services will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln.
