CLAYTON - Sally White, a longtime resident of Clayton, and beloved wife of Howard "Whity" White, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, in her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 86.

Mrs. White was born March 3, 1921, in Chamita, N.M., daughter of the late Antonia and Melton Mascarenas.

During the 1940s she was an infamous "Rosie the Riveter," building Liberty Ships at Henry J. Kaiser Shipyard, and was an aviator trainer proudly supporting the war effort.

Mrs. White later became a waitress with a pleasant, cheerful personality and a warm heart that many knew and loved.

She married "Whity" on May 2, 1953, and enjoyed volunteering in support of the World War II and Korean War veterans.

Mrs. White was an active member of St. Polycarp Parish, Smyrna.

Above all, she enjoyed being with her many friends and enthusiastically volunteered at many social events.

Mrs. White enjoyed life to the fullest and once stated, "The most important thing is to love everybody."

She was an active supporter of American Legion Post 14, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 654 and the Veterans Hospital in Wilmington.

Mrs. White loved to sing and dance with her friends wherever and whenever she could.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard White, several years ago.

She is survived by her sister, Flora Sills of Pacifica, Calif.; and her brother, Sostenas Mascarenas of Chamita.

Mrs. White was laid to rest next to "Whity" in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, on Thursday.

A party in Sally's honor will be held at the end of January. All friends and family are welcomed and encouraged to contact the family for details to honor this amazing and loving person.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Hospital, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium, Smyrna.
