Ruth Williams Sampson

Ruth Williams (Garton) Sampson, 84

LEWES - Ruth Williams (Garton) Sampson passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007, in Lewes. She was 84.

Mrs. Sampson was born and lived in Pleasantville and Linwood areas before moving to Wilmington. She returned to Egg Harbor Township for several years and most recently resided in Marydel.

She rode and showed horses and later just loved to be near them.

She was a member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She later became a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in EHT, where she enjoyed being an active member of the Martha Circle.

She belonged to a number of clubs; Boots & Spurs Riding Club, Bridge Club, Tilia, Amica and was active in the Pleasantville PTA. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Charles H. Mann Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United States Trotting Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sampson.

She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Frances Sampson of Marydel; a daughter and a son-in-law, Patricia and William Henry of EHT; four grandchildren and their spouses, William Keith and Annamarie Henry of EHT, Kelley and Steven Sweiderk of Grasonville, Md., Rhonda and Daniel Greene of Marydel, and Robert J. Sampson and his companion, Rebeca of North Carolina; step grandchildren, Joseph and Lisa Brown, and Robert and Tanya Brown; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty O'Keeffe of Virginia Beach, Va.; four nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield, where friends may call one hour earlier. Order of the Eastern Star service will be 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be in Laurel Memorial Park.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Zion United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, or to Hospice of Delaware.
