Ruth P. Davis

MIDDLETOWN - Ruth P. Davis, 87, of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Born on May 15, 1923, in Delanco, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lena (Fusco) Phillips. In her earlier years, Ruth worked for Delaware Trust Co. in Middletown. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for many years with Odom Farms. On Jan. 29, 1944, she married William "Bill" Davis and together they shared 64 years of marriage. Ruth was an active member of Middletown VFW Post 3792, where she was one of the founding members of the ladies auxiliary. She was also a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church for many years and Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church both in Middletown. She found great enjoyment in crocheting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, in 2008; a sister, Ida Phillips; and two brothers, Matthew and Samuel Valentine. She is survived by a sister, Lena Mosley, several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her dedicated caregivers, Paula Ewell, with whom she lived and Louise Tolliver. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or to Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 381, Middletown, DE 19709-0381.
