LEWES - Ruth Brierton Mason, of Lewes died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 89.
Mrs. Mason was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Dumbarton, Scotland, daughter of the late Robert and Catherine (Douglas) Brierton.
She loved her Scottish heritage and supported everything Scottish.
Mrs. Mason was a longtime resident of northeast Philadelphia where she was a 40-year member of the Daughters of the British Empire and a member of Ormiston Mansion in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. She was a life member of the Old Pine Street (Third, Scots and Mariners) Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. As a member of the church, she made crafts and was known for her shortbread, all of which helped support the church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1995, by her husband, Andrew Mason a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
She is survived by family in Scotland and Australia; and her dear friends, Joyce M. Hannisch, Mr. and Mrs. James Gervan, and Janet Scully.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. The Rev. Dianne Deming will officiate. Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Lewes Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 612, Lewes, DE 19958; or Harbeson United Methodist Church, Del. 5, Harbeson, DE 19951.
