Ruth G. Jones

SMYRNA - Ruth G. Jones, of Smyrna, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the Silver Lake Nursing Home, Dover. She was 83. Mrs. Jones was born on Feb. 3, 1928, in Dover, the daughter of the late Lee Clifton and Pearl Slaughter Gooden. She worked as a Clerk and Secretary for Wilson Refrigeration for ten years before retiring in 1956. Ruth was involved with the DE Girls Scouts for 30 years. She enjoyed supporting the Girl Scouts. She was also an avid Bridge player and enjoyed playing golf. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Jones in 1982. She is survived by her friend and caregiver, Sylvia Holt and her husband Tom of Dover; friends, Lynn and Bruce Wright of Smyrna, and their daughter, Christina Wright; and especially her Bridge Club friends of Smyrna. Graveside committal services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 330, Smyrna, DE 19977. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
