DOVER - Roy Clifford Michealsen of Dover passed away, Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.
Mr. Michealsen was born Dec. 1, 1927 in East Hempstead, N.Y. to the late Einer Michealsen and Pernelle Hanson Michealsen, and is the last surviving of 12 children.
He served in the United States Army at the end of WWII. Mr. Michealsen was certified as a Journeyman Carpenter in the State of New York, and he and his brother, Howard, owned and operated Michealsen Brothers Inc., in Long Island, N.Y. He shared his skills with his son who worked closely with him. After decades as a building contractor, he retired in 1994 and moved to Dover to live near his daughter. He enjoyed wood working which he shared with his grandchildren. He learned Rosemaling, a Norwegian style of decorative painting, and designed, made, and decorated many pieces which he gave as gifts to his family. Mr. Michealsen also enjoyed golf and baseball. He was drafted into the minor league in the 1940's but turned down a contract with the Red Sox's AA team in favor of his building career. He loved to work! More than that, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, in whom he found great joy! Most of all, he loved Jesus, his Savior whom he served throughout his life.
Mr. Michealsen was a member of the Syosset Bible Baptist Church in New York, where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He loved working with and mentoring young men in the church. He spent much time visiting the sick, and had a heart for people that were hurting or needing encouragement. He touched the lives of many. In Dover he was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Young Hearts. He took a special interest in the care of the church facilities, designing and overseeing the construction of a multipurpose building which was added to the church. He remodeled the office space of the church, designing and building bookshelves for the pastoral staff.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Florstrom Michealsen in 2015, to whom he was married for 65 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Dale-Karen Seda (Jonathan) of Dover and Lance Steven Michealsen (Karen) of Milford, Pa.; grandchildren, Michelle Novenson (Matthew) of Scotland, Matthew Seda (Jennifer) of Delaware, Kristen Seda of Virginia, and Mark Seda of Delaware; great grandchildren, Hans, Levi and Ben Novenson, and Jack, Ainsley, Garrett, and Tallulah Seda.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 350 McKee Road, Dover. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Interment will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to The Gideons, or Grace Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
