DOVER - Roland E. Serman, of Dover, passed Saturday, May 5, 2007, after a courageous and dignified battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family in his home. He was 73.
Roland was born on Sept. 24, 1933, in Salisbury, Md., son of the late Irene and Edgar Serman.
His career was trucking and he treasured the rewards of the road, meeting people, chatting and easily making many friends along the way. Everyone who met him quickly looked forward to their next meeting.
Most of all he loved his family, gardening and playing with his grandchildren and beloved pups, Lady and Yogie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irma Jane Smith and Mary Louise Serman; and a son, Glen Serman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marian Hobbs Serman of Dover; five daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Paul Tacka of Catonsville, Md., Jackie Taylor of South Hill, Va., Mary Lou and Chuck Krupka of Hartly, Judi and John Haughton of Dover and Annette and Stan Smith of Dover; two sons and their wives, Richard and Ana Cote' of Felton and Michael and Karen Cote' of Dover; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oldfellows Cemetery, Camden.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Hwy, Dover, DE; or The American Cancer Society.
