SAN ANGELO, Texas - Robert S. Ellwanger, of San Antonio, passed from this early life on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, after a brief illness. He was 75.
Bob was born to Mildred and Phillip Ellwanger on Oct. 27, 1932, in Georgetown, Del.
He attended schools in Delaware and became a pilot during the five years he served in the U.S. Air Force.
After being stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Bob fell in love with Texas and became a transplanted Texan.
He loved flying and spent 20 years with Mitsubishi as a test pilot and flight engineer.
Bob loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and hunting.
He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with his tools.
Bob also had the knack of being able to grow just about anything in his garden.
He and Bernice moved to Delaware for a number of years, but recently returned to their Texas home.
Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bernice (Green) Ellwanger of San Angelo; two brothers, Virgil Ellwanger and his fiancee Julie of Millsboro, Del., and Donald Ellwanger and his wife Sheila of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Joann Ellwanger of San Angelo, Steve and Becky Ellwanger of San Angelo and Roger and Cher Bewick of Cleveland, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Craig Ellwanger, Cadye Ellwanger, Tiffany Ellwanger, Chrissy Ellwanger and Bobby Bewick; a great-grandchild, Aiden Cole; and special friends, Lynn and Dorine Jones of Oklahoma City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Frances (French) Ellwanger.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel, San Angelo.
