Robert Robinson, 96

HARRINGTON - Robert Robinson of Harrington died Saturday, Aug. 18 at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 96.

Mr. Robinson was born in Dergina, Northern Ireland, to parents Robert and Margaret Robinson.

He came to Philadelphia when he was 19 years old.

Mr. Robinson"s first job in America was with the Tastykake Factory in Philadelphia for over 10 years, after which he owned a restaurant in Philadelphia.

He joined the Navy in 1943 serving until 1945.

After being discharged from the Navy, Mr. Robinson owned and operated yet another restaurant in Philadelphia.

He moved to Delaware in 1956, and became a member of the Presbyterian Church in Milford, where he served as the teacher for the adult Sunday school class for 50 years. Mr. Robinson was an active member of the Gideon"s for many years, and a member of the Harrington Senior Center.

He was owner/operator of the restaurant at the Holiday Motel in Greenwood for 17 years.

Never one to fully retire, he worked various jobs in the area including Carroll Car Sales in Felton and Hardee"s in Harrington, until the age of 90.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Robinson was predeceased by his first wife, Harriet in 1999; and a brother in England, William.

He is survived by his wife of three years, Priscilla Robinson; a sister-in-law, Lillian Devlin and her husband, Ernest of South Hampton, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Sidney Kirkpatrick and his wife, Lee; a niece, Maurine Jones of Warwickshire, England, who is the last surviving member of the Robinson family; and several other nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Independent Bible Fellowship Church, Harrington, where friends may call beginning at noon.

Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Hills Cemetery and Memorial Park, Philadelphia.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Gideon"s, P.O. Box 56, Harrington, DE 19952; or Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
