SEAFORD - Robert Havey, age 92, of Seaford, surrendered his life after a short illness on Monday, June 8, 2009, at home with his family by his side. Mr. Havey was born in Patterson, N.J., the son of the late James and Jennie (Crotzley) Havey. Sergeant Havey served in the 9th Army in Europe during World War II where he received the bronze star for distinguished service. After attending N.Y.U., Mr. Havey moved his family to Seaford where he began his 39 year career as a DuPont chemist, retiring as a Supervisor of Quality Control in 1979. He was a long time member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club, where he especially enjoyed golfing and dining. He occupied his spare time fishing, boating, playing bridge and reading about the Civil War. He took pride in his home and yard and enjoyed the companionship of his pets Lassie, Fritzi, Gretchen and Charlie. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara Pierce Havey; one son, Robert Havey, Jr. and his wife Teresa of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, Sheila Barnes of Milford, Susan McCord and her husband Denny of Newport News, Va., and Dee Fontana of Hockessin; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood. In lieu of flowers ,the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
