Retired U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Robert E. Phelps, 69

MILLSBORO - Retired U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Robert E. Phelps of Millsboro, formerly of Baltimore and Ocean View, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, in his home. He was 69.

Mr. Phelps was born in Norfolk, Va., son of the late Edwin and Jerusa (Hudson) Phelps.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 31 years.

After retiring, he became a licensed realtor and worked with Seacoast Realty, Ocean View.

An avid railroader, Mr. Phelps was a member of the Delaware Seaside Railroad Club, and a life member of the Train Collectors Association. He was also a member of the Oak Orchard-Riverdale American Legion Post 28 and Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, Ocean View.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine E. "Liz" Phelps; a son and a daughter-in-law, Joseph E. and Paula Bittner of Clarksville; a sister, Dinah Sue Baldwin of North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Michele L. Bittner and Crystal A. Bittner.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Gonce Funeral Service, 4001 Ritchie Highway, Baltimore, where friends may call from 7 to 9 this evening.

Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Baltimore.

Arrangements by Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville.
