Mr. Brooks was born July 8, 1950, in Georgia, son of Ann Ivey and the late Russell Brooks.

He attended school in Miami.

Mr. Brooks served his country as a helicopter technician for the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He was employed by the state of Delaware as a correctional officer for 20 years. He later returned to Florida where he worked building high-rise hotels.

He spent some of his happiest times as a child exploring the Everglades before development started to threaten this important natural resource.

Mr. Brooks enjoyed playing his guitar and had a love for music, which he passed on to his children.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jake Ivey.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Brooks; two daughters, Jamie Cox of Wyoming, Del., and Kristie Brooks of Townsend; a son, David Brooks of Townsend; his mother, Ann Ivey; two brothers, Donnie Brooks of Miami and Joseph Ivey of Key Largo; seven grandchildren, Kaylee Marvel, Emma Marvel, Madeline Marvel, Brooks Marvel and Grace Marvel, all of Townsend, and Brett Cox and Julia Cox, both of Wyoming; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other family.
