Robert D. Lingo

GREENWOOD - Robert D. Lingo, Jr. died Aug. 8, 2013 at the Country Rest Home, Greenwood. Mr. Lingo was born in Milton, Del., son of R. Davis Lingo and Sara (Webb) Lingo. He was a graduate of Milton High School and a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Following graduation in 1941, he was employed by the Carnegie Illinois Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania prior to serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII. Following the war, he returned to Delaware where he was involved in the early days of the Delmarva Poultry industry. Later he was employed by General Foods Corporation in Dover and later by Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown, retiring in 1984. In addition to his parents and daughter-in-law, Wanda Lingo, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anne Murphy Lingo, in 2007. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cindy Lingo; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Eric Rauch; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier. Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to: First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Walnut Street, Milford, DE 19963.
