Richard James Vernon, 77

EASTON, Md. - Richard James Vernon of Easton died suddenly at home Monday, Jan. 29, 2007. He was 77.

Born June 18, 1929, he was the son of the late Elmer D. Sr. and Rebecca (Paris) Vernon.

He was a graduate of the University of Delaware with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne M. Monteith. They just recently marked their 55th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Vernon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Delaware.

His career took him to Annapolis, where he established AIR-CON, which he owned and operated for over 25 years. He retired and moved to Easton in 1990.

He was an avid sailor, Civil War historian and enjoyed traveling extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East, but Germany was his favorite destination.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeanne Vernon, April 12, 2006; two brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Amy Fenzel of Denton and Rebecca Peter of Queenstown; three sons, Richard Vernon Jr. of Utah, Jeffrey Vernon of Delmar, Del., and David Vernon of Warrenton, Va.; a sister, Marion Owings of Wilmington, Del.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD 21619.
