Richard Garvey

DOVER - Richard Garvey of Dover passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at home. He was 62. Mr. Garvey was born June 15, 1952 in Amityville, New York to Adelaide Aratoli Garvey and the late Harry Garvey. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla. with a degree in Flight and Aviation. Mr. Garvey worked for Airpax as a machinist and a tool and die maker before opening his own company R&D Machine. He owned and raced sprint cars and was a member of the Tampa Bay Area Racing Association, until 1990, then focused on sales of autos and luxury boats in Florida. After moving to Delaware he worked as general manager for new car sales at Willis Auto Group in Smyrna. Mr. Garvey was at one time a member of the Corvette Club and had owned a 63 split window and Nova SS. Mr. Garvey is survived by his mother, Adelaide Garvey of Micanopy, Fla.; his wife of 18 years, Linda "Lynn" Brogan Garvey of Dover; son, Thomas Garvey and his wife Carly of Hoover, Ala.; step daughter, Dr. Kelly Abbrescia and her husband Dr. Vincent Abbrescia of Wyoming; sister, Nancy Hyde of Whitefish, Montana; sister-in-law, Marlene Johnson of Greensburg, Pa.; brother-in-law, Ronald Brogan of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, Max and Aly Garvey, Ariana, Bella, Gianna Abbrescia; and many other friends and relatives who loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, #205, New Castle, DE 19720. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
