DOVER - The Rev. Gerald G. Youngs, of Dover, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 87.
The Rev. Youngs was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Algonac, Mich., son of the late Glen D. and Freda (Lempke) Youngs.
He was a graduate of Algonac High School and later attended school in Detroit.
The Rev. Youngs was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a tech sergeant from 1941 to 1945. He later served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.
As an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Church of God, he served as a pastor and evangelist while in different locations throughout his vocation. The Rev. Youngs was oftentimes called upon to preach at numerous church denominations throughout the tri-state area.
The Rev. Youngs was a member of the Capital District board for several years, and had served for many years as volunteer chaplain for the Dover Modern Maturity Center, where he also served as a member of the board of directors. He was also a member of the Kent County Advisory Board for RSVP.
A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, the Rev. Youngs always enjoyed the companionship and goodwill of his large circle of friends. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Helen E. (Wheeler) Youngs of Dover; a son, Gerald G. Youngs of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Karla J. Coy of Battle Creek, Mich., and Katherine R. Youngs of Benicia, Calif.; three grandsons; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday in the East Longwood Room at the Dover Modern Maturity Center, where friends may call starting at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
