QUEEN ANNE, Md. - Raymond L. Smith Sr. of Queen Anne, Md. died Thursday, June 14, 2007, in the Meridian Center, The Pines in Easton, Md. He was 83.
Born in Allegheny County, Va., Mr. Smith was the son of the late John Francis Smith and Alice Rhodes Smith.
A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Smith became a sawyer and retired in 1988 from Johnson Lumber in Easton.
He had moved to Covington, Va. after retirement and had moved back to Maryland in 1996.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, three half brothers, and two half sisters.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Betty L. Smith of Queen Anne, Md.; two sons, Robert G. Wills and his wife, Connie of Denton, Md. and Raymond L. Smith Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Harrington; four daughters, Betty Alice Adkins and her husband, Richard of Queen Anne, Kathy Knox and her husband, Palmer of Wye Mills, Md., Brenda Smith and her friend, Rodney of Easton, Md., and Mary Smith and her friend, Michael of Greensboro, Md.; five sisters, Hilda Mosley, Gloria King, and Linda Meadows, all of Covington, Va. and Gay Nell Cash of Stanton, Va., and Nettie Rodriquez of Bridgeton, N.J.; one brother, James W. Smith of Covington, Va.; 15 grandchildren: Stephanie, Michael, Crystal, Willie, Amanda, Brittany, Robbie, Christopher, L.B., Lisa, Jonathan, Mary, Bobby, Tiffany, and Jamie; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at one p.m., Monday in the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, Md., where friends may call from 7-9 p.m., on Sunday.
The burial will be in the Maryland Eastern Shore Cemetery, Beulah, Md.
