Priscilla "Petey" Calahan, 91

DOVER - Priscilla "Petey" Calahan of Dover passed away Sunday April 22, 2007, in Westminster Village. She was 91.

Mrs. Calahan was born March 30, 1916, in New London, Conn., the only child of the late Lewis B. Doane and Mary Rodgers Doane.

She graduated from WMI and attended Connecticut College until marrying Capt. Emmet T. "Spike" Calahan, USCG, on Oct. 19, 1935, remaining happily married until his death on Nov. 1, 1986.

Upon his retirement from the Coast Guard in 1963, Petey and Spike moved to Dover, where they lived for almost 10 years before moving to Delray Beach, Fla. In March 1996, Petey moved back to Dover area where she lived until the time of her death.

A devoted wife and mother, she was also active in a number of political and charitable causes, including the Kent County Republican Party, the Dover branch of the SPCA and Old Dover Days, for which she was the chairwomen one year in the 1960s.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Lucy, who passed in 1988.

She is survived by daughter, Priscilla, of Denver; a son, John of Bear, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Westminster Village Community Center, 1167 McKee Road, Dover.

Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery at a later date.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
