GEORGETOWN - Preston E. Donovan of Georgetown died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 89.
Mr. Donovan was born in Redden, son of the late Charles H. and Nancy (Penuel) Donovan.
He was a foreman for the Department of Transportation, Ellendale, before retiring in 1979. He was also the caretaker for McColley's Cemetery.
He enjoyed farming and gardening.
Mr. Donovan was a member of McColley's Church in Redden and volunteered at local churches and would help anyone who needed it.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Burton Donovan; a daughter, Elizabeth White; a grandson, Robert D. White Jr.; and two sisters, Mildred Burton and Esther Mitchell.
He is survived by three sons, Charles A. Donovan and Joseph H. Donovan, both of Georgetown, and Albert E. Donovan of Lewes; two daughters, Dorothy A. Cannon of Millsboro and June E. Donovan of Georgetown; three sisters, Elsie Walton of Georgetown, Nora Forst of Milton and Florence Webb of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Conley's Chapel Cemetery, Angola.
