DOVER - Philip A. Messina, of Dover, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 87.
He was born May 1, 1921, in Wyoming, to the late Antonio and Teresa (Carnesi) Messina.
He was a life member of Cheswold Volunteer Fire Co. and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 626.
Mr. Messina served on the Kent County Board of Appeals from 1987 until his death.
In past years he was co-owner of C&P Market at Bishop Corner.
Woodworking was his love and he enjoyed gardening, fishing and the beach.
Mr. Messina was preceded in death by his wife, Frances "Mickey" Messina, in 2007; three brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Philip A. and Yvonne Messina Jr. of Camden; son and his wife, Leon and Ann Messina of Dover; sister, Lena Analore of Dover; grandchildren, Christopher, Valerie, Tracy and Leann; and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Jr.
The viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Trader Funeral Home, Dover.
Remembrance services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
