Peter Austin Mantz Sr., 86 MARYDEL, Md. - Peter Austin Mantz Sr., of Marydel, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del. He was 86. Peter A. Mantz Sr. was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Frederick, the son of the late Austin Mantz and Thelma Rickerds. Mr. Mantz served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After an honorable discharge, Mr. Mantz worked as a painter for the Local union #1 out of Baltimore for most of his life. On Dec. 24, 1949, he married Anna Mary Mantz, and the two moved to Queen Anne's county where they have resided since retirement. Mr. Mantz was a member of the New Beginning Church of God. He enjoyed boating in his younger years, family gatherings and watching movies. Mr. Mantz is survived by his wife, Anna Mary Mantz of Marydel; one son, Peter Mantz Jr. and wife Rose of Lexington Park; one daughter, Patricia Klopp and husband Robert of Chestertown; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, four sisters, and one brother. Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 6, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be held in Sudlersville Cemetery in Sudlersville. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to New Beginning Church of God, 3341 Mahan Corner Rd., Marydel, DE.
