SMYRNA - Odes Bartley of Smyrna, formerly of Newark, died peacefully Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, in his home. He was 84.
Mr. Bartley was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Penny, Ky., one of 13 children of the late Willard and Hama Kiser Bartley.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Bartley worked as an auto inspector with Chrysler Corp. in Newark for 33 years until his retirement in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dora J. Bartley; a stepdaughter, Debra Keenan Kastelic; a grandson, Justin Michael Bartley; two brothers, Delmer Bartley and Emory Bartley; and a sister, Hessie Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Joanne McCabe Bartley; four children and their spouses, Jennifer and Donnie Sexton of Newark; Tommy Wayne Sr. and Barbara Bartley of Newark; Jerry Lynn and Robyn Bartley of Manteca, Calif. and Michael Bartley of Newark; a stepdaughter, Susie Cruson and her husband, Bobby of Nevada; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Tremble Bartley, Johnny and Joyce Bartley, Offie and Peggy Bartley, Otis Bartley and David and Linda Bartley; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Essie Elswick, Gladys and James Thomas, Minnie Belle and Clifford Hamilton and Edith and Norman Hershek; 15 grandchildren, Rick Sexton, Shannon Sexton, Shelly Sexton, Stacie Bartley, Tommy Bartley II, Wendy Bartley, Kevin Bartley, Jason Bartley, Sheryl Bartley, Bill Shire, Paul Shire, Shawnalee Cruson, Bobbie Cruson, Alex Kastelic and Zachary Keenan; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
Services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
