Mrs. Courtney is survived by her sister Anna Marie (Robb) Glaus and brother Bud and his wife Nancy Robb, sons Michael, Garry (Kim) and their son Sam, Jeff (Jennie) and their sons Joshua & Jacob and daughters Donna and her son Chancellor Fugate and Carolyn (Gary Johnston) and her children Erica and Tyler Wildrick. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Elizabeth Robb and her husband C. Carlton Courtney, Jr.
Norma Jean was born April 5, 1938, in Henderson, Md and graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1956. As a young girl, she enjoyed growing up on a farm and raising cows. She was a member of the 4H Club in her younger years. Jean was a homemaker while her children were young, then worked as a recreation aide for several years at Fairview Elementary. She spent over 15 years working in the Jr. Board Giftshop at Kent General Hospital. Crafting was her passion. She was known for her creativity, fun crafts and crochet projects. From crocheting each of her children and grandchildren their own blankets to the ultimate holiday crafts made from the heart, crafting brought her comfort especially after Carlton passed.
Jean was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Dover. She took pride in her work with the church food pantry and circle group carrying out the Lord's will. She and her family spent many weekends at their summer retreat in Ocean View, Delaware. She was active with the Dover Little League snack bar while Carlton umpired and coached. She looked forward to her Red Hatters Saturday afternoon lunches filled with giggles and fellowship. She was very active in her children and grandchildren's lives, always supporting their activities.
She passed peacefully and will be missed by her family and friends. The family asks in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Baptist Church of Dover, 301 Walker Road, Dover, DE 19904.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the First Baptist Church, 301 Walker Rd., Dover, DE 19904. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
