MAGNOLIA - Nancy Lee Miller (Peldyjak) Short of Magnolia passed away after a brief battle with cancer Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, surrounded by her family. She was 66.
Mrs. Short was born June 29, 1940, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Augustus John (Peldyjak) and Helen Edna (Wright) Miller.
She was a graduate of Dover High School.
Mrs. Short was a former telephone operator, and for awhile, a draftsperson with Diamond State Engineering.
Since 1976, she and her late husband owned and operated Short and March Motors and Short's Used Auto Parts in Magnolia.
Mrs. Short loved cooking, going out to dinner, taking care of her stray cats, crossword puzzles and going to the slots. She also enjoyed spending time with her three granddaughters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Mercer A. Short Sr., in 1998.
She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Shelby A. and Levi F. Biggs of Marydel; a son and a daughter-in-law, Mercer A. Jr. and Cheri Short of Magnolia; three granddaughters, Christy Ferin Short of Smyrna and Gabrielle Marie Short and Jena Lee Short, both of Magnolia; and her many cat friends.
There will be no services, as Mrs. Short donated her body to the International Institute for the Advancement of Medicine, Baltimore.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contribution to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
