Mildred Markowitz, 90
AVENTURA, Fla. - Mildred Markowitz of Aventura, formerly of Felton, Del., died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, in Florida. She was 90.
Mrs. Markowitz was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Phillip and Annie (Greenberg) Diamond.
She married Benjamin Markowitz in 1942 and lived and raised their two sons on their farm near Felton.
She worked as a saleswomen and manager for Emmanuel's department store in Dover, Del., for more than three decades. When she retired she was an active volunteer for Read Aloud and The Adult Literacy Program.
Mrs. Markowitz was the youngest matron to be elected by the Order of the Eastern Star for New York State. She was the first president of the Beth Shalom Sisterhood, past member of the Dover Century Club and was active in the Felton PTA
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Benjamin Markowitz, in 1996.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Zane and Sally Markowitz of Great Falls, Va. and Norman and Denise Markowitz of Aptos, Calif.; a sister and a brother-in-law, Edith and Edward Kushner of Trevose, Pa.; a grandson, Andrew Markowitz of Great Falls; a stepgrandson, Ryan Worden of Aptos; and a stepgranddaughter, Renelle Douglass of Arlington, Texas.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Dover.
