BETHANY BEACH - Michael A. Ruddo, of Bethany Beach, formerly of Roanoke, Va., and Adelphi, Md., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, surrounded by his loving friends and family. He was 68.
Mike was born in Roanoke on Feb. 22, 1939, the only son of Michael and Josephine Ruddo.
He is a 1961 graduate of Virginia Tech, where he studied civil engineering and was a member in the Corps of Cadets.
After graduation, he moved to the Washington, D.C., area and was employed by the WSSC as a civil engineer until his retirement in 1989.
While at WSSC, Mike was certified as a professional engineer.
Shortly after, he worked for Rodgers & Associates in Rockville, Md., until moving to Bethany Beach with his wife Mable.
Mike was an avid fan of Virginia Tech football, as well as University of Maryland basketball.
He enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with his family.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mable Lavender Ruddo of Roanoke; five children, Michael S. and his wife Kim of Queenstown, Md., John P. and his wife Stephanie of Ocean City, Md., Timothy A. of Olney, Md., Matthew C. and his wife Kelly of West Friendship and Emily J.T. of Los Angeles,; and his six grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as "B-Bop," Taylor, Conner, Jonathan, Chloe, Tommy and Morgan.
He was also a devoted friend to many and will be sadly missed by all.
His presence was a gift to all who knew him.
A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Mark's Catholic Church, 7501 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, Md.
Instead of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Tunnel Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
