Mervin V. Towers, 78
DENTON, Md. - On Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, the Lord called home his faithful servant, Mervin V. Towers. He died at his home near Denton. He was surrounded by his loving family and "fought a good fight." He was 78.
Born in Tuckahoe Neck in Caroline County, Mr. Towers was the son of the late Clarence Thomas Towers and Victoria Lee Betts Towers.
He was a 1946 graduate of Caroline High School, Denton.
He was defined by his faith and his love and devotion for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, church and church family.
As a child, Mr. Towers worked on a farm with his parents. He then worked at the DuPont factory in Seaford, Del. He subsequently worked as the service manager and parts manager for Beck Chevrolet, Lewis Motors, Jarvis Chevrolet, and All Star Chevrolet, all in Denton.
In his retirement years, he worked at Fisher Auto Parts in Denton.
He was a lifelong member of Thawley's Chapel, Tuckahoe Neck, where he was a board member, trustee and past treasurer.
Mr. Towers is survived by his devoted, loving and dedicated wife, Phyllis Ann Towers of Denton; three sons, Grant Towers of Denton, Michael Towers and his wife Cindy of Denton and Jeffrey Towers of Elkton; one daughter, Victoria Williamson and her husband Dale of Cordova; eight grandchildren, Sherri Wood and her husband Wesley, Jonathan Towers and his fiancee Shelley Dorman, Brandie Towers and her boyfriend J.C. Huff, Bryan Towers, Joshua Towers Miller, Michael Towers Miller, Ashley Williamson and Noah Williamson; three great-granddaughters, Riley Wood, Elle Wood and Malory Wood; a beloved sister-in-law, Franny Baynard and her husband Clarence; and two nieces and two nephews and their spouses.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Denton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making memorial donations to Thawley's Chapel, 23164 Thawley Road, Denton, MD 21629; or to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
