Meredith E. (Johnson) Morris, 85
LEWES - Meredith E. (Johnson) Morris, of Lewes, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, in Lewes Convalescent Center after a lengthy illness. She was 85.
Mrs. Morris was born March 26, 1921, in the Rabbits Ferry area of rural Lewes, daughter of the late Ella Mae (Wright) and William L. Johnson.
She spent her entire life in the Lewes area, a devoted wife to her husband. For many years she was the local Avon lady.
Mrs. Morris was very caring and concerned about her siblings and other family members.
She was one of the founding members of Christ Church under the Rev. Ethelbert L. Maddox in 1958.
Mrs. Morris served on the senior choir, communion steward and faithful custodian.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin J. Morris, in 1982.
She is survived by her twin sister, Thelma H. Morris of Lewes; a son, Tony Hughes of Lewes; four nieces, Merle Ann Morris and Elda Mae Wright, both of Lewes, and Crissy Morris and Ruth Morris, both of New Jersey; a nephew, Harvey C. Morris of Lewes; a godson, Harvey Quentin Morris of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Anthony Hughes of Lewes and Michelle Downing of Georgetown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Israel United Methodist Church, Lewes, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Thomas Johnson will officiate.
