FELTON - Max Earl Coston, of Felton, departed this life Saturday, March 29, 2008, in Milford Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 19, 1922, to the late Edward and Catherine Coston in Machipongo, Va.

Max was the second-oldest sibling of 12.

He attended public schools in Northampton County, Va.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Max was a kind and loving hearted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Missionary Baptist Church of Dover.

Max was a hard worker and worked as an oyster shucker for 30 years.

He was employed at Metal Craft, which he retired, and also worked at the Delaware State News.

Max enjoyed being around his family and friends.

He also enjoyed fishing, watching football and basketball, and gardening.

He was married to the late Stella Mae "Dollbaby" Ayers Coston who departed this life in 1989.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Dennis Coston, Melvin Coston, Robert Lee Coston, Paige Coston, Raymond Coston Sr., and Harry Coston Sr.; and one sister, Dorothy Tankard.

Max is survived by four daughters, Earline Coston of Felton, Brendette Coston of Magnolia, Maxine Coston of Wyoming, and Shirley Waters; one son, Melvin Leroy Ames; three brothers, Dave Coston of Philadelphia, Booker T. Coston of Wachapreague, Va., and John L. Coston of Onancock, Va.; one sister, Catherine Haw of Richmond, Va.; four sisters-in-law, Effie Church of Wyoming, Virginia Coston of Dover, Shirley Ayers of Exmore, Va., and Thelma Coston of Boston, Va.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Services will be noon Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, where friends may view two hours prior.

Burial will be 10 a.m. April 10 in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bennie Smith Funeral Home to help defray expenses.
