Maurice Curtis 'Reese' 'Buck' Burton, 56
MILTON - Maurice Curtis "Reese" "Buck" Burton of Milton died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in his home. He was 56.
Mr. Burton was born Feb. 18, 1950, in Lewes, son of Marjorie Ricks and the late Curtis Burton.
He graduated from Jason High School, Georgetown, where he was involved with track and field. In 1972, he completed his studies at Delaware State College, earning a degree in business administration.
Mr. Burton was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
He married Violet Johnson and they had three children.
Mr. Burton worked as an insurance underwriter with Liberty Mutual, Williamsport, Pa., and later relocated to the same company in Milford. After a long battle with cancer, he retired.
He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and he had a special place in his heart for his mother.
Mr. Burton enjoyed fishing as a hobby, hunting with "Jimmy" and going to yard sales with his grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Regina.
He is survived by two daughters, Tabitha Cephas and Tonya Pumphrey; a son, James Burton; two sons-in-law, Otas Cephas Jr. and John Pumphrey; four grandchildren, Shakyra, Thomas, Sha'heeda and Keith; his mother and her husband, Marjorie and Wes Ricks; five siblings, Ronald Burton, Felonise Norwood, Juanita Gettings, Terrene Burton and Curtis Burton; two brothers-in-law, Gemez Norwood and Norman Gettings; two sisters-in-law, Joan Burton and Lacretia Burton; an uncle and his wife, William "Dickie" II and Helen Miller; an aunt, Mary M. Paschal; a very close cousin, James "Jimmy" Harmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. John's Second Baptist Church, Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends may call from noon.
The Rev. Annie J. Custis will officiate.
Burial will be in Israel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
