Mary Louise Marecki, 89
LEWES - Mary Louise Marecki passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She had just celebrated her 89th birthday.
Born on August 13, 1933, in South Philadelphia, Louise was the daughter of the late Michael Ariano and Angela Ferrucci Ariano. She was raised in South Philadelphia (Corner of Woodstock & Ritner Street) and graduated from St. Monica's Roman Catholic School. She earned her nursing degree at The Methodist Hospital Nursing School in Philadelphia.
On April 23, 1955, Louise married Edward F. Marecki, a Naval Aviator. Their first home was in Rhode Island and after his naval discharge, they settled in the Philadelphia suburbs. After working as a registered nurse at several Philadelphia hospitals, Louise and Ed moved to Dover. She worked for a short time at Kent General Hospital and later spent the remainder of her nursing career at Milford Memorial Hospital retiring after 30 years. Louise was especially proud of her work in the emergency and ambulatory surgery departments at Milford Memorial and the life-long friends she made there.
Louise was an accomplished bridge player and played duplicate bridge, almost completing her Life Masters. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Alaska and to Europe. Among other things, she liked attending plays and concerts, playing the piano, and bowling. She was happiest surrounded by family including her granddaughter and great granddaughters along with her faithful companion Daisy, a spoiled puggle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Marecki in 2010; and her siblings, Phyllis and Joseph.
She is survived by her son, Edward and his wife Pamela of Rehoboth, DE; granddaughter, Laura Brill and her husband Bryan of Marietta, PA; great granddaughters, Emerson and Thea. Louise looked forward to calls and visits from her nieces and nephews. She had many special friends who stayed in touch by phone including Dr. Betty Forbes of New Jersey, Drs. Sam and Nancy Magrone of Dover, and Lorraine June of Lewes.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 11 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Dr., #1689, Lewes, DE 19958. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Rd., Lewes, DE 19958.
Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.
